I would like to share a little bit of information about my hometown to those who may be considering relocating to the South Shore.

When my husband & I first moved to the town, it was a sleepy community known for its ponds surrounded by cottages, cranberry bogs, and the herring run.  It has blossomed into a residential community with a population of slightly over 18,000.  The natural resources of the town provide much outdoor recreation for its residents.  There are 3 public beaches that allow swimming, several reserves providing walking trails, and the Town Green, the Herring Run, and Luddam’s Ford are all available for personal use via permits.

For the youth of Pembroke, there are organized sports teams, active scout packs, a recreation commission providing activities throughout the year, as well as youth groups through the various churches.  The Hobomock Ice Arena is very popular with the local hockey teams.

For the seniors, there is a Senior Center  that provides numerous activities and trips as well as daily meals.  A newsletter is printed keeping the seniors up to date on all the events.

There are many local businesses and retail shops, such as Tumbleweed Quilts, Country Curtains, Fedele’s Chocolates, L. A. Beauty Supply that offer unique products and services.

Restaurants, such as Café Christina, The Brimstone Tavern, British Beer Company, Pasta Eleganza, are popular eateries.

Some annual events in the town that draw large crowds are the Herring Fish Fry, the Arts Festival showcasing local talent, and the Memorial Day parade.

The town will be celebrating its 300th anniversary in 2012 and many events are in the planning stages.  Pembroke’s residents are looking forward to the upcoming celebration.
