The Certified Insurance Counselors program, aka CIC, provides an extensive education to insurance agents, insurance company underwriters and others in the insurance profession.

What is the CIC program?

“The CIC Program meets the practicing insurance professional’s need for comprehensive, technical knowledge in all areas of the insurance industry” * Each institute is offered throughout the USA. There is 2 ½ days of classroom instruction, followed by an exam at the end.

How many CIC Institutes are there?

There are five CIC Institutes that each candidate must pass in order to achieve the CIC designation. They consist of: Personal Lines, Life & Health, Agency Management, Commercial Property and Commercial Casualty. Once all five institutes (courses) are passed, the individual may use the designation, Certified Insurance Counselor.

CIC and I

So far, I have attended both the Commercial Property and Commercial Casualty institutes. I plan to take the next 3 courses every 6-8 months to achieve my designation as soon as possible. Much more than just initials after one’s name, the CIC designation is of value. Although I consider myself well-seasoned and versed in the insurance field, I have learned so much more from both courses that I have attended and have used this new practical knowledge at our insurance agency.
