Winter Safety: Frozen Pipes

Written by Sue Bird | Thu, Jan 15, 2015 @ 09:22 PM

Knock on wood, we haven’t had much snow…yet. Unfortunately, we’ve had extremely cold weather and our office has already had several claims resulting from frozen pipes. The damage can vary greatly from house to house so be sure to take extra precautions and keep all areas of your home adequately heated where there are pipes. If you’re like most people and turn your heat down at night, keep it a little higher as your pipes that are located in exterior walls will be more susceptible to freezing, especially if they are not well insulated. You can also protect pipes that are accessible with heat tape or those foam insulating wraps. Open cabinets under your sinks to let warm air in and let your faucets drip.
