New Law Enacted in Massachusetts

In March 2015, the state of Massachusetts decided to come up with a law which stated that drivers need to have their headlights and taillights on when their windshield wipers are on. Massachusetts enacted this new law to be effective April 7, 2015. The reasoning for this law is that officials believed that it would help a lot with people's driving in dangerous weather conditions.

We were told it would be a minor traffic violation if cited and therefore a Surcharge on your auto policy. The fine will only be $5 for violating the new law, but the surcharge will result in an increase in your insurance for a couple of years.

This law created a bit of controversy within the state because people thought that this law was unnecessary due to how most people can decide for themselves when to use headlights or not. Therefore, effective June 1, 2015, the violation is no longer considered a surchargable offense.
