6 Steps to Prevent Others from Drinking and Driving

Holidays are a time of joy and celebration, but sometimes people take the holiday spirit too much to heart and drink more than they should. With Christmas and other holidays fast approaching, parties are sure to follow. Many of these festive events will involve drinking alcohol, but they should not include drunk driving. People who seem too impaired to drive should not be on the road. Viewing any such behavior is a good cue to stop the driver and take their keys.

Drive safely sober and with automobile insurance auto from Andrew Gordon Inc Norwell MAHere are 6 steps to prevent others from drinking and driving:

  1. Let them know calmly they shouldn’t drive and should either get a ride with a friend or YOU call a taxi.
  2. If you're close, be calm and approach gently. Private conversations will work best.
  3. If you aren’t good friends with the person, find their pals and let them convince the person not to drive.
  4. If all else fails: find the keys and keep them. They might assume they lost the keys and be forced to travel by other means.  Give them back when they’re sober; they will probably thank you.
  5. If you’re a passenger with this person, refuse to go if they drive.
  6. Collect everyone’s keys as a hosting rule and only return to the designated drivers.

Remember, you’re doing them a favor, not embarrassing them. Take your friend out of public view to talk about it. If you’re going to a party with alcohol, make sure you have a ride home or can take public transportation. Drink responsibly and enjoy the holiday season.
