The Perfect Baby Shower Gift

Get the perfect baby shower gift with andrew g gordon inc insuranceMy sister and I have never been very fond of shopping off or gift registries – where’s the creativity or challenge in that? For years we have ignored these lists when shopping for baby showers and instead have worked together to begin building a library to welcome the new baby.  There are so many books we love, but here are a few of our favorites.

  • My Big Animal Book by Roger Priddy – This is more than just a great animal picture book. It has wonderful rhyming text and includes such animals as the chinchilla and kookaburra. Yes, even the parents will learn something new!
  • Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney and Anita Jeram - An incredibly sweet book without being too syrupy. In these few pages you will find a positive love message for a child about how limitless their parents’ love truly is. This is simply a wonderful bedtime message to sleep on. However, be warned – this has become such a classic that I once went to a shower where the mom-to-be received four copies!
  • Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Williams – We all know that children go through phases of reading the same book over and over and over again. This delightful Caldecott Honor winner will keep the parents laughing as well. This is also a great book for beginner readers.
  • On The Night You Were Born by Nancy Tillman – This book begins, “"On the night you were born, the moon smiled with such wonder that the stars peeked in to see you and the night wind whispered, `Life will never be the same,' Because there had never been anyone like you...ever in the world.”  The story expresses how special and unique your child is and how the whole world celebrated when they were born.  The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and Ms. Tillman’s artwork adorns the walls of many children’s bedrooms.
  • If you’re looking for quick reads that adults and children will enjoy – you can’t beat Sandra Boynton!  Her books contain bright colorful illustrations, lovable characters along with funny, dancing and rhyming text – a joy for children of all ages!  Blue Hat, Green Hat is indeed a book about colors but it’s much more than that.  It also teaches articles of clothing and how to get dressed and how NOT to get dressed – the turkey never seems to get it quite right! You may find you and your child saying “Oops!” quite often, and laughing every time!  Another Boynton favorite is Pajama Time. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself dancing and singing when you get ready for bed - "Pajammy to the left! Pajammy to the right! Jamma jamma jamma jamma P! J!"
  • The Twelve Gifts of Birth – This book reminds us that these twelve gifts belong to every child at birth: strength, beauty, courage, compassion, hope, joy, talent, imagination, reverence, wisdom, love and faith. This is a message that resonates with all ages. This would be a wonderful gift for anyone you love for any occasion, a baptism or christening – even graduation! Be sure to take the time to inscribe the book with the date along with a special message. This is a keepsake book which will be treasured for years, and it definitely belongs in every home!
